What is RSS?

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary but it is more widely known as Really Simple Syndication.

In essence, RSS allows website owners to distribute news articles without waiting for the information to appear in a search engine index. RSS feeds are syndicated to search engines and RSS directories and surfers with feed readers collect new information soon after it is published.

How does it work?

Imagine you are searching for new information on the internet. You can select RSS feeds that interest you and enter the company's links in your RSS Reader. Then you can see any new information that is published by that company.

If, for example, you want the latest news headlines from the BBC, you can save the BBC's news feeder to your RSS reader.

It's the same process with our revelations. When we publish a new article, you will quickly know about it.

How to get a News Reader

We recommend the one built into Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7. It's supplied as standard with Windows Vista so it will be on all new computers but all Windows users can download it free of charge and upgrade their existing browser.

Alternatively, you can search on the internet for "RSS Readers"

How to use RSS

Watch out for websites and web pages that display either the or button then click it to visit the page showing the RSS feeds. If it contains information that may interest you in future, save it to your browser.

If you are using Internet Explorer 7, the Feed button next to Home button will turn from grey to orange when you are visiting a website that offers newsfeeds. Click it to read the feed.

You can then connect to news feed at any time and see a summary of the latest published articles. Right click the Newsfeed name and then click Refresh or Refresh All. Click the topic you want to read and you will be taken to the relevant web page.

Note: The legend on the orange button may read XML instead of RSS. This is OK and will also lead to RSS feeds.
