Government for the people ... not!

Will we ever have a decent government?

Since the more successful years of the Thatcher era, our governments seem to have gone from bad to worse.

First there was John Major's lot ... which proved to be all that was necessary to let Labour back into power under their new guise of reformed socialists -- ha! ha! Led by Tony Blair - the man who could be trusted (sic) - we were taken (on falsified evidence) into wars that had nothing to do with us and were mostly unwinnable. During his tenure he proved to be the least trustworthy occupant of 10 Downing Street and the lies fell from his lips without ever registering in his brain.

When he was succeeded by Gordon Brown - the honest son of a preacher - matters just got worse. Between them, Blair and Brown confirmed the fears of many people: they were both complete megalomaniacs.

So, in 2010, it should have been the simplest task of all time for the Conservatives to consign the Labour Party to the political dustbins for many years to come. Brown had almost handed victory to them on a plate by proving to everyone that he could not be trusted with money, perhaps not even with a church collection. Yet, despite all this, the Tories could not secure a workable majority and it was largely for the same reason that New Labour failed to hang on to government: neither party had a leader the people could trust! And worse, in the Tories' case, they had chosen a leader with no experience of leadership, or of real life.

Thus we now have a coalition government of Tories shared with the backstabbers and fraudsters of the LibDem Party where nothing will ever be achieved, especially when almost every promise made to the electorate is subsequently reneged upon. And we are stuck with them for the full five years, during which time our politicians continue to dip their grubby little snouts in the trough that is subsidised by the taxpayers. They do not know the meaning of the word 'truth' but bombard us with a constant stream of lies and bullshit. They just don't care! Most of us now believe that nearly all politicians are tarred with the same brush. They're all in it for what they can personally gain from it and we're just here to pay for their benefits. Directly or indirectly, we provide most of the fodder for the troughs.

The Conservatives constantly tell us their work is harder because they are having to put right all the problems caused by the Labour administration. But they are equally to blame for what New Labour did because, for thirteen years, they could not find a leader who could form a credible opposition. And they still haven't found one. Unless they get rid of Cameron and trust their fortunes to a non-toff, man of the people (David Davies would be my choice for the role) they are unlikely to gain a solid majority.

"Many men stumble across the truth ... but most manage to pick themselves up and continue as if nothing had happened."

Winston S Churchill
